Is YouTube becoming the new Netflix? YouTube Red—YouTube’s paid streaming service—launches original programming next week, featuring Lilly Singh, PewDiePie and more.
There’s been so much buzz about YouTube Red since the program launched last fall, allowing users to pay $10 a month to remove ads from users’ videos. But the really exciting content hasn’t even dropped yet. Next week, Red’s original programming featuring YouTube’s top creators will be released into the world. We’re here to break it down for you.
A Trip to Unicorn Island
Lilly Singh is one of the biggest YouTubers on the planet. In this movie about her 27-city world tour, we get a closer look at the unicorn costume-wearing, rapping, motivational speaking, multitalented human that is Superwoman.
And for the name? In the trailer, Lilly says, “Unicorn Island is that state I reach when I decide everything is going to be ok.” Oh, and did you catch that The Rock drops in, too?
“You’re about to watch me get the shit scared out of me,” PewDiePie teases in the trailer. In Scare PewDiePie, the namesake takes video games to a whole other level, playing live horror games. Ahhh!
We see him locked inside a coffin, getting up and close with worms, and maybe even getting electrocuted! Yikes.
This scripted feature film features four small town boys who discover an alien ship and must save the planet! Lots of explosions, laser guns and special effects, so it’s more of a dude movie!
Who doesn’t love a good dance movie? Meg DeAngelis, Jake Paul and Nadji Jeter star in this film about teens who find themselves at a summer dance camp. In between the neon, choreography, and sass, we’ll find out who takes the competition!
Which of these YouTube Red films are you most excited to see?
